These dogs are intelligent and have a highly developed sense of smell. In addition, they have exceptional eyesight, which makes them excellent night hunters.
Character
Dogs of this breed are loyal to their owner, fully devote themselves to their duties, attentive and fearless. The Bluetick Coonhound is an excellent family companion and protector. He quickly finds a common language with older children in the house, provided that they are attentive to him. Shows coldness in dealing with strangers, but is usually not aggressive. The Bluetick Coonhound treats other dogs well, especially if he grew up with them, but it is not recommended to take it into a home with cats or small pets. If a dog of this breed is left alone for a long time, it will try to remind of itself by howling or destructive behavior for the environment.
Wool and care
The Bluetick Coonhound is covered with a dense, short, smooth, and glossy coat, however, rather coarse in structure. The color is tricolor and rather unusual. The main color is white with frequent flecks of dark wool, which makes it variegated and blue in appearance. Brown markings are present on the eyes, chest, muzzle, and legs. Molting is almost continuous, so this breed needs regular brushing to minimize the loss of dead hair. If necessary, bathe the dog or clean it with dry shampoo. Dogs of this breed are not recommended to be kept in a city apartment. They feel best in the countryside, where they can easily and safely wander for pleasure, indulging in their usual activities, or they need a house with a spacious and securely fenced yard.
