Characteristic
This dog, which has a rather frightening appearance, is actually calm and gentle in nature, although, if necessary, it can show both fearlessness and strength. Bouvier des Flandres can adapt to almost any environment and is the ideal guard and watchdog. Thanks to its intelligence and easy training, this dog will never let you get bored.
Character
A quiet and calm breed, Bouvier des Flandres is intelligent, fearless, good-natured, and responsible. This dog is not recommended for beginner or intermediate breeders as it requires a lot of obedience training to avoid any dominance problems. With the right treatment, increased training and, of course, love, this dog is just an ideal candidate for the role of a family pet.
Wool and care
Bouvier des Flandres has a thick and heavy coat with a beard and mustache very characteristic of this breed. If you want your dog to look decent, you have to put in some effort. Tough, rough, and shaggy coat, dry to the touch and even slightly crunchy. Although the top coat is coarse and tough, the dog’s undercoat is soft and rather dense. It is clear that such wool will require special care. It must be trimmed at least three times a year, otherwise it will look untidy and tangled, mats will form in it. In addition, this dog needs daily cleaning. If the dog’s coat is properly cared for, the hair loss will hardly be noticeable.
Training
This undoubtedly large and quite often stubborn breed requires steady and regular training. Bouvier des Flandres makes an excellent guard dog and in general he grasps literally everything on the fly.
Activity
It is best to keep this dog in a country house with an extensive yard, but with regular training, this dog may well live in a city apartment. Since the Bouvier des Flandres is a very active and strong breed, it requires significant physical activity. Long walks on a leash are recommended, as well as free walking where possible.
