The Italian dog breed Cirneco dell’Etna bears a strong resemblance to the Pharaoh Hound. This is a hound, oriented both to sight or hearing, and to smell, in fact, it has spread exclusively in its homeland in Sicily, and this dog is extremely difficult to see or acquire anywhere outside of it. Cirneco dell’Etna belongs to extremely rare dog breeds.
Characteristic
A primitive breed, Cirneco dell’Etna has a slender and graceful build. Despite its lithe appearance, this dog has excellent musculature, it is extremely strong and hardy. The most distinctive feature of this breed is its ears – set very high, rigid and almost vertical. Cirneco is an agile, fast dog with a unique ability to chase and catch its prey absolutely soundlessly.
Character
Cirneco dell’Etna is not suitable for those owners who lack experience or have a dog for the first time, it has a strong, independent personality. This is an affectionate, loyal, and lively dog that can become a true friend. She gets along well with children and other pets with whom they grew up in the same house since puppyhood. But to those people with whom they are not familiar, these dogs are rather wary. The same can be said about unfamiliar pets. And although Cirneco dell Etna is extremely vigilant and cautious in nature, the manifestations of aggression are not absolutely typical for them.
Wool and care
Cirneco dell’Etna is covered with short, coarse and shiny hair. Periodic brushing with a stiff bristled brush is recommended for this dog. You can only bathe if absolutely necessary. Since this breed is extremely rare, no data on typical diseases exists yet.
Training
The Cirneco dell’Etna is an intelligent, dominant dog breed that requires early and intense socialization and obedience training. Rough or arbitrary methods in dealing with this dog will be completely ineffective. Training must be conducted with firmness, fairness, patience and consistency.
Activity
Cirneco dell’Etna requires a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. Therefore, this dog is absolutely not suitable for living in a city apartment. Best of all, Cirneco dell’Etna will feel at home in the countryside, where she will have enough space for walking, hunting, running and all kinds of games.
