Sometimes you can hear that dogs of this breed have a kind of split personality: on the one hand – a quiet and calm dog, on the other – an excellent guard, striving for active domination.
Characteristic
The Dogue de Bordeaux is used in many cases for guarding or guard duty. In order to avoid problems with aggression in this dog, it is imperative to conduct early and intensive socialization. Speaking in general, before starting the Dogue de Bordeaux, think about whether you have enough experience for this.
Character
Feeling fearful in its appearance, this dog can be calm and polite, provided that it has received proper socialization and adequate home education. If you already have a male dog in your house, you should never have a Dogue de Bordeaux male. And, although dogs of this breed usually get along quite well with children, you must constantly keep the situation under control, keeping in mind their aggressive nature and considerable physical strength.
Wool and care
The Dogue de Bordeaux, or, as it is often called, the French Mastiff, is dressed in a short and soft fur coat. On the front of the head there is a darker mask characteristic of this breed. In terms of their coat, these dogs require relatively little grooming: shedding is moderate and usually not a big problem. You can remove dead or fallen hairs with an ordinary rubber brush or gloves, but as a rule, it is quite enough to simply wipe the dog completely with a damp towel, like the one used for washing dishes.
Training
It is usually said that the intelligence of the Dogue de Bordeaux is at an average level, although this is compensated by the dog’s personal devotion, obedience and desire to earn praise from its owner. This dog is fearless, assertive and rather large in size, in need of an active dominant owner. Performs well in obedience, working disciplines and guard dog competitions.
Activity
This dog requires a significant amount of physical activity, and therefore it is best if this dog has an active owner. To keep this breed, you need a house with a large yard, as well as frequent and long walks. However, like all short-faced dogs, the Dogue de Bordeaux gets tired rather quickly, therefore it is recommended to always have water on hand so that there is something to water the dog.
