Sealyham Terrier: Dog Breed Description

The Sealyham Terrier was bred in Wales in the mid-19th century. This breed was created specifically for hunting rodents, so it is very brave and very flexible. The Sealyham Terrier is popular in Europe but almost unknown in the United States. This is the most calm and obedient terrier.

Characteristic

This adorable little dog is muscular and has a robust build. Sealyham Terrier is bold, energetic, has a lively mind, but at the same time it is quite calm and stable. This breed is loyal to the owner and his family, it is a wonderful companion dog.

Character

Sealyham Terrier is smart and affectionate. He is independent and temperamental like all terriers, but less irritable than other members of this group. This dog gets along well with adolescents and does not show aggression towards familiar dogs, although it clearly dislikes unfamiliar dogs. This is a good watchdog and a real member of the family.

Wool and care

The Sealyham Terrier has a double coat: a coarse, tough waterproof top coat and a soft and dense undercoat. The color of this terrier can only be white; sometimes, however, it has markings on the head and ears of lemon color, tan or badger color. Sealyham Terriers almost never shed. This breed needs professional trimming. This terrier should be brushed at least twice a week to prevent mats from forming. It is necessary to bathe this little terrier only in case of emergency, using a mild shampoo, it is even better to do dry cleaning. This dog tolerates cold weather well, but does not like heat. This breed has few health problems; however, the Sealyham Terrier is allergic to fleas and can become deaf in old age, and this dog also has rather sensitive skin.

Training

Sealyham Terrier is difficult to train: he quickly learns new knowledge, but may try to undermine the master’s power. This dog needs early socialization and obedience training. This dog needs a strict but fair teacher. This breed successfully participates in various sports competitions.

Activity

The Sealyham Terrier requires moderate physical activity. He must be walked on a rigid leash. This dog loves active games with the family. It is perfect for living in a city apartment, but this dog will also feel great in a country house.
