Characteristic

Since this breed was bred to guard sheep, it has a developed herd instinct, and therefore can often bite the owner and his family members on the ankles, as well as run after cars. The Shetland Sheepdog is a pet dog, so it cannot be kept in an aviary or booth. The Sheltie is a cute and affectionate dog, but it can jealously defend its territory and its owner. This dog is a member of the family, and she just loves to sit with everyone on the couch and watch TV.

Character

Shetland Sheepdog is an energetic and active dog. She is well trained and has the ideal temperament for a pet. The Shetland Sheepdog gets along well with children if they know how to behave with the dog. Sheltie is an excellent watchman, she will warn the owners about the appearance of a stranger, but will not attack him if she is not provoked. Wool and care

The Shetland Sheepdog has a long double coat that forms a beautiful frill around the neck. The Shetland Sheepdog needs constant grooming to prevent tangling. This dog’s long coat gets dirty quickly, but regular bathing is not a problem for it. This breed sheds quite abundantly and needs special care during this period.

Training

Shetland Sheepdog is very easy to train, she is extremely intelligent and easy to learn, of course, if she is trained by a good trainer using the right methods. Shetland Sheepdogs are happy to obey humans, but a highly developed herd instinct is difficult to curb and it can cause some trouble for the owner of the Sheltie.

Activity

Sheltie is a very energetic dog, and therefore needs regular training. However, the Shetland Sheepdog should not be allowed to run freely. She loves to chase moving objects, and if this process is not controlled, the dog may be in a dangerous situation. So it’s better to let the Shelties run in the fenced yard. A medium sized yard is suitable for this small and energetic dog.
