It’s time to find an activity for your active dog. These activities are designed to improve your dog’s health and happiness, but if your dog is already happy, they may not need your help.

Dogs should be exercised, and if they’re very active dogs, they’re excellent candidates for high-performance sports like agility and flyball. Almost any healthy dog can enjoy participating in a physical activity.

When it comes to dog sports and recreation, there are plenty of options. Make sure your dog has a thorough veterinary examination prior to starting any dog sport. Once your vet gives clearance, consider these popular dog sports that can challenge your dog’s mind and body while reinforcing the canine-human bond.

This activity is similar to skateboarding, except that the dog is not moving across a flat surface. It’s more of a sport where the dog must negotiate many obstacles. This sport requires effective communication between the dog and the handler.

Agility is a great form of exercise and mental stimulation for all kinds of high-energy dogs, including Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, and Schipperkes. Just about any healthy dog can participate in agility.

This program is intended for dogs with disabilities or special needs that can improve their obedience skills. Working together, they can help their handler develop his or her own agility skills.

When you think of agility, your first thought probably goes to dogs. However, there is a human counterpart: Canine agility is a competitive dog sport that takes place within an obstacle course. The dogs are trained to make jumps, travel through tunnels, and navigate various walkways–all in a specific order. The dog’s handler directs him along the path as they go through their training regimen.

This sport requires effective communication between the dog and the handler. Agility is a great exercise for energetic dogs like Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, and Schipperkes.

No matter what breed of dog you have, you can play agility with them. The intensity of the course can be altered to accommodate dogs with limitations or special needs, and teamwork between the dog and handler is the cornerstone of this sport.

A free-style routine is essentially dancing with a dog. Any move is allowed as long as it doesn’t put the dog or handler in harm. Routines generally involve the dog performing twists and turns, weaving around the handler’s legs, walking backwards, jumping, and moving in sync with the handler.

It’s not unusual for dogs to get bored during training. For this reason, trainers often use fun elements and games that will add interest to the training process. The best part is that most of these games are easily learned, so they don’t require much time or effort on your part.

Herding Trials

There are two ways to determine whether a dog is bred for herding: The dog’s pedigree can be traced back through her parents’ pedigree, or through her grandparents. In addition, if a dog is working, herding may be indicated by the behavior.

If your dog is looking for something to do, why not get him to herd? He’ll have a blast and you’ll be able to see his skills develop as he does it well, but he might need a little help from you along the way. The best place to learn is in training and trial competitions.

The dogs give the commands, such as the Black Mouth Cur, and the dogs, such as the Black Mouth Cur, work their magic. If you’re thinking about herding, there are probably herding groups in your area to contact regarding training and competition.

A live animal chase (such as a dog chasing a rabbit or a cat chasing a bird) involves both physical and mental exertion, and the best dogs in the world will not achieve any kind of success if they don’t have the right mind for the activity. However, a luring dog is usually given a few minutes to see which dog is going to win, and then the competition is over.

Lure coursing is a great sport to allow your dog to act upon his instinct to chase things in a safe, humane way. There are many different lure coursing activities that provide lots of fun and exercise for your dog.
